The Yankees have had a decent time with first-round selections since the MLB Draft was created in 1965.
There are easily recognizable names, like Derek Jeter and Thurman Munson.

Munson, the No. 4 overall pick out of Kent State in 1968, debuted the following season. He spent his entire 10-year career with the Yankees, earning seven All-Star titles and two World Series championships before he died in a plane crash in 1979.
Jeter was drafted No. 6 overall out of Michigan's Kalamazoo Central High School in 1992, and went on to debut for New York three years later. He spent 20 years with the Yankees before retirement, racking up five World Series championships and 14 All-Star selections.
While those draft success stories are well in the past, the Yankees have had some productive drafts in recent years, including Anthony Volpe, who made his MLB debut this season after New York made him its top pick in the 2019 draft.
Clarke Schmidt is another name who was drafted in 2017 and made the Opening Day roster in 2022 after an elbow injury delayed his career.
