The Nationals have released Trevor Rosenthal after a disastrous outing against the Braves on Saturday night.

The team made the announcement Sunday, adding it has recalled righty Austin Voth from Double-A Harrisburg.

Rosenthal walked the first two Braves he faced when he was called out of the bullpen. With the Nationals up 8-4 before he was summoned, Rosenthal allowed three walks, which gave the Braves the opportunity to rally and secure a 13-9 win.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Saturday night he planned to re-evaluate Rosenthal before making an executive decision on how to handle his performance.

“Like I said, (Friday) he seemed a little bit poised, (Saturday) he seemed antsy out there," Martinez told reporters, via SB Nation. "Some of those pitches I guess were close, I didn’t see them yet, but I’ll have to look and see where we’re at.”

Rosenthal, 29, appeared in 12 games for the Nationals in 2019, going 0-1 with a 22.74 ERA with eight hits, 15 walks, and 16 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched.

The decision to release Rosenthal comes after he signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the team this past offseason. He previously spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Cardinals.

In St. Louis, Rosenthal has 121 saves under his belt.

Voth will hit the ground running Sunday, with him getting the nod to start in the series finale against Atlanta on Sunday. The 26-year-old has posted a 3–5 record with a 4.40 ERA in 12 starts for the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies.
