Nationals' Max Scherzer gifts team with commemorative bottles ahead of World Series parade image

Washington celebrated its first World Series title Saturday with a parade, but pitcher Max Scherzer made sure to gift the Nationals with something else to honor their achievement.

Scherzer awarded team personnel with bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label scotch that featured the words "Finished the Fight," which referred to the Nationals' strong finish to the year despite a difficult path.

He praised his teammates and the team's staff for their contributions to Washington's championship run.

"There isn't a better group of players out there to become the first team to win the championship title for the Nationals," Scherzer told reporters.

"I wanted to thank each and every individual on this team and coaching staff who helped us get here, so I've teamed up with Johnnie Walker to gift them an engraved bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label to mark this moment and toast to the future. Nothing can beat this feeling and nothing is better to toast to this achievement than Johnnie Blue. Cheers to a damn good season and bringing this trophy home. Go Nats!"

Scherzer, a seven-time All-Star, started Game 7 of the World Series and gave up two runs in five innings of work as the Nationals secured their closeout victory.

He was essential to the team's playoff success and went 3-0 in the postseason with a 2.40 ERA.

Washington mounted several impressive comeback performances en route to its World Series triumph, and Scherzer's gesture is a nice way to commemorate the journey.
