MLB wrap: Twins set road home run record in win over White Sox image

The Twins entered the history books Thursday.

Minnesota belted three homers

in its 10-5 victory over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. In the process, the team completed a three-game sweep of Chicago and set an MLB record for the most road home runs in a season.

Minnesota has 141 long-balls away from Target Field in 2019.

The Twins jumped out in front early with four runs in the first inning. They tacked on two more in both the second and the third to take command and easily cruised to the win from there.

White Sox starter Dylan Cease surrendered eight runs and 10 hits while lasting just two innings on the mound.

"It almost looked like we shortened up at times," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said after the win (via the Star Tribune). "We almost just did what we had to do to put the ball in play and just put a good swing on the ball instead of the swings that we've seen some of our guys put on throughout the year. That kind of approach worked out."

Twins outfielder Jake Cave homered twice in the game.

Minnesota leads the American League Central with an 82-51 record while the White Sox dropped to 60-73.

Studs of the night

Mike Clevinger threw eight shutout innings and struck out 10 in the Indians' 2-0 win over the Tigers.

Seth Brown went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the A's 9-8 win over the Royals.

Duds of the night

Astros reliever Chris Devenski surrendered three runs while recording just one out in a 9-8 loss to the Rays.

Todd Frazier went 0 for 4 with a strikeout in the Mets' 4-1 loss to the Cubs.

Highlights

Aristides Aquino with another home run.

Victor Caratini puts the Cubs ahead.

What's next

Mets (67-65) at Phillies (69-63) — The Mets have struggled over the last week and enter their series-opener in Philadelphia on a six-game losing streak. They'll need to bounce back quickly if they want to stay in the National League wild-card race. New York will send Zack Wheeler (9-7, 4.46 ERA) to the mound while the Phillies will counter with Aaron Nola (12-4, 3.53 ERA).
