MLB trade rumors: Mets open to moving Todd Frazier, Jason Vargas image

The Mets appear willing to move some of their veteran pieces.

New York is open to trading starter Jason Vargas and infielder Todd Frazier, according to a report from SNY. Both players are expected to be free agents following 2019.

Vargas has had a bounce-back year after struggling last season as he holds a 3-3 record with a 3.66 ERA in 14 appearances, including 13 starts. But he was involved in a clubhouse incident last month where he threatened a reporter and the Mets would “love to rid themselves” of him, according to SNY.

Frazier is slashing .261/.342/.463 in 61 games this season. He has added 11 home runs and 34 RBIs.

The Mets are willing to listen to offers for starter Zack Wheeler, as well, and the Yankees “love” him, according to an earlier report from SNY.

"It's something that you don't want to think about, but I guess it's in the back of your head," Wheeler said about the trade rumors last month. "But I'm here now and I want to help this team win. I know we're capable of it and we've got a good squad.”

The Mets entered play Tuesday in fourth place in the National League East with a 38-47 record. They had dropped seven of their last eight and were 6 1/2 games out of the second wild-card spot.

New York also trailed the division-leading Braves by 12 games.
