MLB trade rumors: Giants have interest in Blue Jays' Eric Sogard image

The Giants really look like they have turned into buyers.

San Francisco has inquired about infielder Eric Sogard of the Blue Jays, according to MLB.com.

Sogard is a free agent after the season, so the fact that the Giants are pursuing a man they might not control past this year truly drives home the point they will not be selling in the coming days.

Sogard, 33, is in the middle of a career year with the Blue Jays posting career highs in home runs (10), batting average (.299) and on-base percentage (.363).

He would be an interesting pickup for a lot of teams and he has experience playing the corner outfield spots as well as the infield this year, so he could give the Giants a lot of what they want.

And considering second baseman Joe Panik has never played a full season, he is a solid backup plan at that spot for San Francisco.

The Giants remain a team with some of the best trade pieces on the market including postseason ace Madison Bumgarner and relievers Will Smith, Sam Dyson and Tony Watson.

But it appears these men will not be available now as the Giants are one of the hottest teams in baseball having won 17 of their last 21 games.
