If CC Sabathia is going to make another postseason appearance for the Yankees, he'll have to hope his teammates through to the American League Championship Series.

The veteran left-hander will not be on the active roster for the ALDS against the Twins, manager Aaron Boone said at a news conference Thursday.

Boone said Sabathia had discomfort in his shoulder after a relief outing last week and had a cortisone shot in an attempt to alleviate the pain. He threw a simulated game Tuesday but has not been deemed healthy enough to be of use out of the bullpen against Minnesota.

Sabathia told reporters he simply isn't ready to go physically.

“You guys know me, it’s tough," he said, via The Athletic. "Obviously being here and not being able to participate in playoffs is rough but I didn’t want to put the team in jeopardy. … I didn’t wanna be selfish and go out there and hurt and put the team in a bad spot.”

While Boone said he would not reveal the full 25-man roster until Friday, he did name his starting pitchers for the first three games.

James Paxton will get the ball to open the series, followed by Masahiro Tanaka in Game 2 and Luis Severino in Game 3.
