Yu Darvish injury update: Cubs starter will reportedly miss rest of season image

Cubs starter Yu Darvish will not pitch again in 2018.

The 32-year-old right hander is out for the season because of a stress reaction in his elbow, according to a report from MLB.com. Darvish last pitched in a game for Chicago in late May.

Darvish took the mound for the Single-A South Bend Cubs on Sunday, as he attempted to return from tendinitis in his triceps. Darvish, however, left the rehab start after he felt “something” in his arm while throwing warmup pitches before the second inning.

Darvish signed a six-year, $126 million contract with Chicago in February. He tallied a 1-3 record with a 4.95 ERA in eight starts this season.

The Cubs entered play Tuesday in first place of the National League Central with a 71-52 record. They recently acquired infielder Daniel Murphy from the Nationals.
