MLB celebrity softball game final score, results: Deion Sanders' NL team wins despite late AL rally image

The stars headed to Texas for MLB All-Star weekend to play in the annual celebrity softball game. Several participants, from actors to influencers to comedians, took the field in what started out as a low-scoring game but turned out to be pretty darn exciting in the end.

It was all Deion Sanders' National League team until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the American League surged back with eight runs, nearly taking the lead. Country singer Kane Brown, NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, music producer Foreign Teck and former Bachelor Matt James all hit home runs, and the defense was ... mediocre at best.

Nevertheless, the celebrity softball game made for a ton of fun. The Sporting News tracked all the action here live, so check out below to see what transpired.

MLB celebrity softball game live updates, highlights

(All times Eastern)

10:11 p.m. — Bobby Bones walks away with the celebrity softball MVP belt after pitching a stellar game (minus the fifth inning).

10:10 p.m. — Despite the American League rally, Kane Brown rockets a ball to first to get Tyler Toney out to end the game and seal the victory.

10:08 p.m. — Pedro Martinez knocks in two more runs to make the score 10-12! The comeback is in the works for the American League team with one out still to go.

10:06 p.m. — Matt James clears the bases for a three-run home run pulling the American League within four! There are two outs on the board and only one left for the National Team to win.

10:01 p.m. — Jennie Finch smashes a hard single and knocks another two runs in, pulling the American League back into it!

10:00 p.m. — The American League finally scores after three scoreless innings and narrow the deficit to...nine.

9:55 p.m. — Yet another run gets across for the National League and the score is now 12-2.

9:51 p.m. — Another run makes it across for Sanders' National League before Terell Owens absolutely launched a softball that almost made it into the stands for a home run. They are now up by nine runs on the American League.

9:48 p.m. — The American League ends the fourth runless, still down seven with one more inning to go.

9:46 p.m. — Dez Bryant makes an incredible play on a pop-up foul ball behind the plate, sprinting into the net to catch the ball.

9:45 p.m. — Four runs make it home after at-bats from Dez Bryant, West Wilson and Bobby Bones, extending their lead to 9-2. The inning ends with the National League at 14 hits on the game so far.

9:40 p.m. — Kane Brown smashes a two-run home run to put the National League up 5-2 on two outs. The country singer celebrates by signing some softballs when he returned from running the bases.

9:38 p.m. — Camille Kostek makes it to first for National League after Matt James catches the ball but his foot wasn't on the bag. Rookie mistake.

9:33 p.m. — The third inning comes to a close with the National League back on top leading by one. At this point last year, the score was 19-9, so either the defense is much better or the offense is much worse. Take your pick!

9:23 p.m. — West Wilson and Bobby Bones with back-to-back inside the park home runs for Sanders' National League team! They lead 3-2 with one out in the top of the third.

9:20 p.m. —A 1-2-3 inning closes out the second and the American League leads by one in Arlington.

9:15 p.m. — The top of the second comes to a close with no runs scored. Last year's bottom of the second inning brought in seven runs—let's see what this year's competitors can do.

9:13 p.m. — The Kid Mero is tagged out at home by Jennie Finch after an interesting form of base running. He did slide in shorts, though, which deserves some props.

9:11 p.m. — Fight! The Kid Mero came at Pedro Martinez after being hit by a pitch and even motioned for the benches to clear. They do not, and The Kid Mero takes first.

9:07 p.m. — Jennie Finch pops one out to end the first, and we are tied with four innings to go. This year's first inning, unfortunately, pales in comparison to last year's which featured eight runs. Hopefully, more action is to come.

9:05 p.m. — Foreign Teck smashes the first home run of the game off Bobby Bones, putting the American League team up one!

9:00 p.m. — Haddish catches a pop-out from Camille Kostek to finish out the top of the first, and the National League is up 1-0.

8:51 p.m. — A little league home run for SNL's Marcello Hernandez kicks off the scoring, sending Deion Sanders' National League team out in front.

8:50 p.m. — It appears as though Tiffany Haddish will throw the first pitch of the game...with a lime? She faces off against Marcello Hernandez for her first batter and switches to softballs on the second pitch.

8:45 p.m. — The All-Star celebrity softball game is live!

8:15 p.m. — MLB's Instagram stories featured some behind the scenes action from before the game, including Deion Sanders, or "Coach Prime," greeting his team for the first time.
