MLB All-Star 2019: NL vs. AL by the numbers image

After an incredibly eventful and thrilling Home Run Derby, the main event starts Tuesday in Cleveland as the MLB All-Star Game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET.

It's Justin Verlander vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu and the American League vs. the National League.

Last year's game went into extra innings and saw the American League win 8-6 at Nationals Park in Washington D.C.

We'll see if this year's game lives up to the drama of that one.

National League vs. American League by the numbers

— The American League leads the all-time series 44-43-2.

— The AL has also won each of the last six All-Star games, the last two of which ended in extra innings.

— There have only been two ties at the event (1961, 2002) and there was no game played in 1945 due to World War II.

— There have been just two shutouts since the start of the new millennia and they came in back-to-back years (2012, 2013). There have been just six shutouts since 1968 (1968, 1987, 1990, 1996, 2012, 2013).

— From 1963 to 1982, the National League went 19-1. Its lone loss came in 1971 during that stretch.
