New York rookie Pete Alonso has had an impressive year at the plate.

The Mets first baseman hit his 52nd home run Friday against the Braves at Citi Field, tying the MLB rookie record set by the Yankees' Aaron Judge in 2017.

Alonso described the achievement as "unbelievable" following his team's 4-2 victory.

"When I was rounding the bases, I felt like a little kid," Alonso

Pete Alonso says he felt like a Little Leaguer rounding the bases after his record-tying homer.

— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) September 28, 2019 " target="_blank">told reporters. "I was just really kind of overcome with pure joy and emotion. I don't think I've had a happier time in my life playing baseball. That is the ultimate. That's what dreams are made of. It's unbelievable that it happened. I still can't believe it happened.

"To break it at home in front of these Mets fans, for me is so incredibly special. And I hope it was special for them, too."

Alonso has set Mets franchise records for home runs, total bases (343) and extra-base hits (84) while slashing .260/.359/.582 this season.

This is unexpected considering his roster spot with New York wasn't a lock leading up to opening day, but he has given the ballclub plenty of excitement.

"Our fans are just so die-hard, and they're so passionate about the team," Alonso said. "One swing, not just from me but any of these guys in this locker room, can put a smile on everyone's face."

The Mets are 84-76 and will wrap up a three-game series against Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday to end the regular season.
