Two surging teams meet when the Mets host the Astros on Friday night.

The Mets are authoring an incredible in-season turnaround, rescuing a season that once seemed destined for the abyss. They are 15-4 in their last 19 games — and 11-2 since Grimace, the purple McDonald's mascot, threw out a ceremonial first pitch. After Wednesday's 12-2 rout of the Yankees, the Mets are .500 (39-39) for the first time since May 7.

Their lineup has proven to be lethal. In June, New York is the highest-scoring outfit in baseball, averaging 6.59 runs per game. Among the sparks are shortstop Francisco Lindor (.308 AVG in 34 games since moving to the leadoff spot) and catcher Francisco Alvarez, who has reached base in 22 of his last 34 plate appearances.

The Astros, too, are red-hot. They have won seven games in a row, including a three-game sweep of the Orioles, to reach .500 (40-40) for the first time this season. Suddenly, Houston is just 4.5 games back of the first-place Mariners in the AL West.

Veteran second baseman Jose Altuve (.333 AVG in June) and powerful outfielder Yordan Alvarez (7 HR, 1.120 OPS this month) remain the backbones. But among the unsung heroes is Ronel Blanco, the right-handed starter with a 2.34 ERA in 14 starts this season. Blanco will get the ball Friday as the Astros look to keep their good times rolling.
