Perry Hill brings a whole new meaning to "head of lettuce."

The Marlins first base coach has (hopefully) tried many methods of staving off the heat during the summer. His latest attempt: using wet lettuce — that's right, wet lettuce — inside his helmet to try and keep cool, which was "outed" during Monday's Marlins-Braves game in SunTrust Park.

And now, bad lettuce jokes:

— Does "iceberg" lettuce work best?

— Hopefully the lettuce helped Hill "Romaine" cool.

— Apparently Hill tried urging his wife to use this strategy … "Butterhead" wouldn't fit in the helmet properly.

We're used to seeing stadium foods served in replica helmets — nachos, ice cream, chicken fingers — but hopefully we won't be seeing Hill eating any greens out of his lid anytime soon. Superstitious, a little-stitious or not, the lettuce strategy didn't help the Marlins to victory, as they lost to the Braves, 6-1.

Full disclosure: According to sources, lettuce doesn't work as well as cabbage because it wilts quicker. So, Hill has a point.

If you have any idea if this vegetable strategy is truly effective, please …
