It's an AL West showdown Friday night with the Mariners set to host the Angels.

After a slow start to the season, Seattle has taken control of first place in the AL West; earlier in the week, Seattle dominated a four-game set against the Astros, the traditional division powerhouse.

The Mariners are propelled by a stalwart young pitching staff led by Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, and Bryce Miller.

After a steady start to the season, Los Angeles has bottomed out, in large part due to injury: The Angels are left to endure yet another long stretch without their best player, as Mike Trout remains sidelined after undergoing knee surgery.

In Trout's absence, veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar, outfielder Taylor Ward, and second baseman Luis Rengifo have steadied the lineup.

This marks the opener of a three-game set between the two division foes, who are yet to square off this season.
