The deal includes $85 million over those five years, with $15 million deferred, per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Bumgarner, 30, is coming off a decent season with the Giants, though not quite to Bumgarner levels. He was worth 2.5 bWAR over 34 starts, rebounding from two injury-shortened seasons the years prior.
In 2017, Bumgarner was sidelined after injuring his shoulder in the infamous dirt bike accident. In 2018, he nursed a fractured hand, an injury he sustained after taking a comebacker in spring training.
The deal is pretty low-risk for the Diamondbacks. The $85 million overall isn't unmoveable if the team can't compete in a few years, and Bumgarner could probably benefit from a change in scenery. The Diamondbacks, with a solid No. 2 or No. 3 in Bumgarner — depending on which guy shows up — can make a run at the NL wild card in 2020.
