The famous Ken Griffey Jr. statue outside of Safeco Field was vandalized Tuesday night when a man tore off the bat in the slugger's hand.

The good news? Police say they have arrested the man responsible and recovered the bat. Below is the official release from the Seattle Police Department:

Just before 5:00 pm Tuesday, several witnesses called 911 reporting that a man was damaging the Ken Griffey Jr. statue located at 1st Avenue South and South Royal Brougham Way. The suspect, an adult male, had managed to break loose the baseball bat from the statue. Officers arrived and located the suspect a short distance away. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the bat was recovered near the statue.

Officers returned the bat to Safeco security personnel. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of malicious mischief, a felony. Detectives will handle the follow up investigation.

The bad news? It's not exactly easy to re-attach a bat onto a statue. There haven't been any statements made by Safeco officials or the Mariners on the next steps regarding the statue, but it likely won't a simple solution.
