Phillies' Joe Girardi gets testy with reporters after heated dugout debate with Jean Segura image

Joe Girardi channeled his inner Drew Rosenhaus on Sunday.

The Phillies manager, known for his gruff demeanor and competitive edge, got into it a little bit with shortstop Jean Segura during Philadelphia's 10-8 loss to the Blue Jays.

The two were caught on camera having a heated discussion in the dugout after a Segura error that cost the Phillies a run, putting Toronto up 9-4.

"A bench conversation meant for the bench," Girardi said, clearly annoyed. "A bench conversation meant for the bench. Guys, you can ask all you want, you've got everything you're gonna get about it. I'm done with it."

Girardi proceeded to ward off prodding reporters by repeatedly saying "next question" any time reporters tried to figure out what went wrong.

Maybe the next question for the Phillies is this: How do they right the ship? Currently sitting at 21-20, Philadelphia hasn't lived up to championship hype so far this season — and overall during the Girardi tenure, now in its third season.

This isn't the first time that Girardi has been upset with Segura: In 2020, a Segura misplay on an infield pop-up cost the Phillies a game in August, with which Girardi was upset after the game.
