Jed Lowrie injury update: Mets infielder (hamstring) suffers significant setback image

Jed Lowrie has yet to play a game this year for the struggling Mets and he won't be playing one anytime soon.

Lowrie suffered a setback in his recovery from a Grade 1 hamstring strain and it will be several weeks before he will be able to get back to action, according to MLB.com.

The 35-year-old infielder signed a two-year, $20 million deal before the season but suffered the injury in spring training and has yet to take an at-bat at MLB level.

He was on a rehab assignment when he suffered the setback but hadn't found his timing yet as he was 5-for-31 in eight games between High-A and Triple-A.

Lowrie is a career .262 hitter with 104 home runs and 509 RBIs, and is coming off a season with the A's in which he hit a career-high 23 home runs and made his first All-Star team.

The Mets, meanwhile, are in third place in the National League East with a 19-20 record, but are 4-6 in their last 10 games and 14-19 since starting the year 5-1.
