Gleyber Torres injury update: Yankees infielder (hamstring) to have precautionary MRI exam image

Yankees middle infielder Gleyber Torres, who exited Friday’s game against the Blue Jays with a right leg injury, will have a precautionary MRI exam Saturday, MLB.com reported.

"It didn’t look good," according to NJ.com, when the All-Star second baseman's leg gave out in the top of the fourth inning Friday as he attempted to make a throw from behind the bag after fielding an infield single by the Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

It looked worse when Torres stumbled to the ground and stayed down for about a minute.

Torres, 22, told manager Aaron Boone that he felt good Saturday ahead of the Yankees 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Jays, according to MLB.com, echoing what Boone said late Friday.

Asked after Friday's 4-3 loss if Torres was OK, Boone said, “We’ll see. Precautionary getting him out of there. Just in talking to him … he says he’s fine, but we’ll get him tested and everything.”

Torres is considered day-to-day pending the MRI exam.

The Yankees, who on Thursday clinched their first AL East title since 2012, have fought through injury after injury this season but can ill afford to enter the postseason starting Oct. 4 without Torres, who is slashing .284/.343/.546 with 38 homers and 90 RBIs while anchoring the middle of New York's batting order.
