Giancarlo Stanton injury update: Yankees slugger ‘moving in the right direction’ image

 Giancarlo Stanton is slowly progressing.

The 29-year-old Yankees slugger has begun to participate in baseball activities, manager Aaron Boone told reporters this week. Stanton hit off a tee and did some light throwing, Boone said.

“He’s moving in the right direction,” Boone said, via MLB.com. “The fact that he was able to hit off a tee was a good thing.”

Stanton has been out since suffering a knee injury in late June. It's his second trip to the injured list in 2019, as he also missed 68 games earlier this season with an oblique issue.

In total, Stanton has appeared in nine games, slashing .290/.421/.419 with one home run and seven RBIs in 31 at-bats.

The Yankees have dealt with a slew of injuries to multiple key players throughout the season — including Gary Sanchez, Luke Voit, CC Sabathia, Luis Severino, Dellin Betances and Gleyber Torres, amongst others. But, they enter play Thursday on an eight-game winning streak and with an American League-best 75-39 record.
