In a single play, the Blue Jays lost the lead in a playoff elimination game and their star center fielder.
George Springer was injured in collision with shortstop Bo Bichette while trying to catch a shallow fly by Seattle shortstop J.P. Crawford in the top of the eighth inning. Neither player made the catch and the bases-clearing double tied the game 9-9.

It had already been a tough series for Springer. In Game 1, he was hit in the hand by a pitch from Seattle's Luis Castillo in the eighth inning. He appeared to be in significant pain but he remained in the contest.

What is George Springer's injury?
There was no immediate word on what, exactly, Springer's injury was, but it was severe enough that he was carted off the field. Springer lay on the ground for some time after the collision as trainers came out to check on him in center field. Jays manager John Schneider eventually took him out of the game.
Springer was replaced in center field by Jackie Bradley Jr.

As Springer was being carted off, he waved to the fans at Rogers Centre to try to fire them up as his team tried to keep the game tied.

Seattle took a 10-9 lead in the top of the ninth inning and held on in the bottom half for the win. Toronto was eliminated in the best-of-three Wild Card Series.
