"If you build it, they will come."

The immortal whisper that stirred Ray Kinsella still live on as the most famous line from "Field of Dreams," considered by many to be the greatest baseball movie of all-time.

Kevin Costner's character's project — constructing a baseball field in a segment of his family's Iowa corn farm — has a happy ending. The Field of Dreams complex is hoping for a similar outcome.

After MLB held games at the Field of Dreams complex in 2021 and 2022, the league couldn't do so in 2023 because of construction at the facility. They aren't playing there in 2024 either.

Will the Field of Dream complex's new look eventually lure MLB back to Iowa's corn fields, or will the league continue to look for other venues at which to host special events, like Rickwood Field? Here's what to know about the future of MLB's Field of Dreams game.

Is there a Field of Dreams game in 2024?

MLB has not scheduled a Field of Dreams game in 2024. The league instead decided to host several international series in Seoul, London, and Mexico City while also organizing the Rickwood Field game between the Giants and Cardinals.

The Field of Dreams complex was under construction in 2023, so the venue wasn't available to host the event last season. Construction on the facility has since ended, so it's worth wondering when MLB will return to Iowa for another game at the iconic site.

When is the next Field of Dreams game?

It isn't clear when MLB will hold another Field of Dreams game. The league hasn't announced plans for the future, but given the success of the first two contests in Dyersville, Iowa, it's safe to assume MLB would like to return to the iconic venue again.

It's also worth wondering whether MLB wasn't assured the construction at the Field of Dreams complex would be completed ahead of the game. That could have incentivized them to stay away from the location for a second consecutive year, especially given the league's desire to play a game at Rickwood Field.

When was MLB's last Field of Dreams game?

MLB last held a Field of Dreams game in 2022 for a game between the Cubs and the Reds. Chicago won 4-2 and never trailed after logging three runs in the top of the first inning.

Drew Smyly logged nine strikeouts over five innings to secure the win. Nick Lodolo took the loss, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings.

Four different Cubs drove in runs in the victory: Nick Madrigal, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, and Seiya Suzuki.

There were no homers into the corn in 2022, unlike the 2021 edition of the game that saw then-White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson launch a game-winning blast into the long stalks of corn.
