Corey Kluber injury update: Indians ace (broken arm) has cast removed image

Corey Kluber has taken a step forward in his recovery from a broken arm.

The cast has been taken off, and Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters Thursday a re-evaluation of the arm shows it's healing as expected.

“He got what we were expecting,” Francona said. “They said he has the healing, ‘expected healing,’ is the way it was termed. So, he gets that cast off and he can start doing range of motion.”

''I can do a little bit more,'' Kluber said (via Sports Illustrated). ''So that's good.''

Kluber, however, is still sidelined indefinitely. The 33-year-old right-hander suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right ulna when he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Marlins outfielder Brian Anderson in a game May 1. Francona refused earlier this month to give an estimated recovery time.

"No. 1, it doesn't help," Francona said May 3. "And two, it's not really fair to the player. That's exactly how they [doctors] laid it out. Bones need to heal."

The two-time Cy Young Award winner had a 2-3 record with a 5.80 ERA in his first seven starts this season.
