Sporting News writer Ryan Fagan is traveling through Florida and Arizona this spring, stopping at camps and chatting with the players. One of his side projects is a quick-hitter Q/A we’re calling “Two Minutes With …”

Up next: Brewers outfielder Ben Gamel

What’s your first baseball memory?
GAMEL:
I vaguely remember T-ball. I started when I was 3. I just remember being on the field. It’s weird, because I don’t remember anything else, but I remember the field.

What’s the last show you binge-watched?
GAMEL:
 "The Office."

Any superstitions?
GAMEL:
Yeah. Don’t step on the line, that kind of standard stuff.

What’s your favorite free-time activity?
GAMEL:
Fishing. In-shore fishing, saltwater back home. Redfish, flounder. I grew up on the intercoastal waterway, so there’s a little hole near the backyard. I like to fish live bait, or paddletails, jigs and stuff like that.

What’s one talent you’d most like to have?
GAMEL:
Something musical would be pretty cool. I’m not any type of a musician. I’d rather play than sing.

What was your first job?
GAMEL:
I cleaned out houses for my dad. He builds houses.

What’s your most embarrassing injury.
GAMEL:
I had a lot of injuries as a kid. Lots of stitches. Nothing really … oh, wait, one time I got drug by a go-kart. I was trying to jump in. We were doing some weird stuff. I was about 10. My foot got caught between the road and the tire, and the guy was on the gas. It just kind of spun on my ankle and dug a big chunk out of my foot. Almost had to get skin grafts.

What’s the best purchase you’ve ever made?
GAMEL:
Puppy. My dogs.
