ANAHEIM, Calif.— San Francisco's Brandon Belt broke the major-league record for the most pitches in an at-bat after facing 21 pitches against Los Angeles pitcher Jaime Barria on Sunday.

That's right: Belt faced 21 pitches in his first-inning at-bat at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. Belt fouled 16 balls and ended his at-bat with a flyout to right field.

Belt broke the record of 20, which was set on June 26, 1998 when Houston's Ricky Gutierrez faced Cleveland's Bartolo Colon. Here is a look at the pitch chart via MLB.com:

For what it's worth, Barria escaped a 49-pitch first inning without giving up a run.
