The Blue Jays have long been out of the postseason picture, but Cavan Biggio gave Toronto fans something to cheer about Friday.
The 24-year-old has quietly entrenched himself in the young Blue Jays core that is expected to lead the franchise for years to come, and in recent weeks the rookie's overall game has shone despite a .234 batting average. On Friday against the Rays, Biggio displayed his awareness when he recognized a gap in the Tampa Bay defence in the bottom of the sixth inning and bunted over infielder Brandon Lowe, who was playing shallow while his team employed a four-man outfield.
The looped ball dropped far from all the Rays' fielders, allowing Biggio to leg out a double.

It was an exciting play in a losing effort for the Blue Jays — the Rays clinched the AL's second wild-card spot with a 6-2 win.
Biggio also notched a pair of other milestones during Friday's contest. The Houston-born son of former major leaguer Craig Biggio also stole his 14th base of the season (on 14 attempts), extending his own franchise record for most successful stolen base attempts to start a career.
In addition, Biggio's first-inning walk meant that he has successfully reached base in 27 straight games, good for a share of the club's rookie record.
Needless to say, it's been a good end to the year for the youngster.
