On the same night the Blue Jays got one starter back from injury, two others went on the shelf.

Toronto activated right-hander Marcus Stroman (0-5, 7.71 ERA) from the disabled list to make Saturday night's start and put Aaron Sanchez (right index finger contusion) and Jaime Garcia (left shoulder inflammation), the team announced. Left-hander Tim Mayza was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to take Garcia's roster spot.

Sanchez left his start against the Angels this past Thursday after just one inning. The 25-year-old was mum on how the injury initially occurred but said he jammed his finger before arriving at Angel Stadium for his outing, per MLB.com.

"I just jammed my finger," Sanchez said. "Swelling started to come. Right when I got here, I put some ice on it, figured I could pitch through it. The motion was still OK for me, enough to go. But every time I threw, it just got worse. There was no sense in staying out there."

In 15 starts this season, Sanchez is 3-5 with a 4.52 ERA.

As for Garcia, the veteran left-hander has struggled mightily for Toronto. He has lost six of his past 10 starts and accumulated a 2-6 record with a 6.16 ERA in 13 outings. Garcia, 31, last recorded a victory on April 17 against the Royals.

Mayza, 26, has made 10 appearances for Toronto out of the bullpen this season, pitching to a 2.70 ERA. The lefty has also made 12 starts in Triple-A, going 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA.
