Blue Jays Notebook: Hernandez leads Toronto past Detroit image

While the Blue Jays had a bit of a rough patch last week, it sure didn't show on Sunday.

Toronto hosted Detroit at the Rogers Centre in the final game of a three-game series, and absolutely dominated.

The Blue Jays blew out the Tigers 8-2, thanks to 16 hits and a big fifth inning.

Hernandez's home runs

The Blue Jays dominated on offense, having one of their better days at the plate. They jumped out to an early lead when Kendrys Morales hit a line drive to center to score Richard Urena in the first inning.

They struck next in the fourth, when Teoscar Hernandez bombed a two-run homer.

Hernandez did it again in the next inning, sneaking a ball over the right field wall to score three runs to give the Blue Jays a 7-2 lead. He became the first Toronto rookie to hit two homers in a game since 2011.

But the rookie wasn't done there. He came home on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, giving Toronto a six-run lead.

Sunday marked Hernandez's seventh game with the Blue Jays. He was traded from Houston on July 31.
