Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire was arrested last weekend in Dunedin, Fla., and charged with exposure of sexual organs in a public parking lot outside a strip mall, per Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
According to the report, McGuire was inside an SUV when he allegedly exposed himself. He is expected to appear at the Criminal Court Complex on March 16 in Clearwater.
"The Blue Jays are aware of the recent police incident involving catcher Reese McGuire," the team said in a statement Wednesday. "He has been in communication with the club and we are working to gather more information. Out of respect for the legal process, neither he nor the club will comment any further at this time."
The Daily Mail revealed more information from the police report on Thursday, including details on the interaction between the police and McGuire at the time of the arrest. In the incident report, it states that the witness said McGuire was "sitting and masturbating in a white Mercedes SUV in the parking lot," and that the subject was clearly naked from the waist down.
"As Reese exited the driver's side door, he repeatedly stated, 'I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, this is really embarrassing.' ... 'I really shouldn't have been doing that.'"
The incident report also mentioned how the officer inquired about why he chose to masturbate in a densely-populated public place.
"Reese stated he 'wasn't trying to be seen.' I pointed out that he was in a vehicle with no tint and parked in the busiest portion of the parking lot, surrounded by cars on all sides and masturbating at 2 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. Reese acknowledged that he should have known people would see him."
He was not clear why he was in the parking lot other than to be "hanging out."
McGuire appeared in 44 games during his first two seasons in MLB, all with Toronto. He was drafted 14th overall by the Pirates in 2013 and is a top catching prospect, listed second on the Blue Jays' depth chart.
