The Rangers took the 2023 ALCS back to Arlington with a 2-0 series lead and a chance to close the series out at Globe Life Field. But the Astros are making sure to do their part to make sure the Houston fans get some more baseball.
Houston took an early lead against Max Scherzer and the Rangers in Game 3, and despite Texas' efforts to rally back, the Astros kept out in front to win 8-5. A victory for either team on Thursday could go a long way toward determining the series. Should the Astros win, it ensures the series will return to Houston. But if Texas can bounce back for the Game 4 victory, it will have the chance to end the ALCS at home on Friday.
The Astros will be sending Jose Urquidy to the mound to start the fourth game of the ALCS. Urquidy finished 2023 with a 5.29 ERA over 10 starts (16 appearances). In his playoff career, he has made seven starts and 13 appearances, pitching to a 3.64 ERA.
Countering Urquidy will be southpaw Andrew Heaney, who has had a 4.15 ERA in 147.1 innings in 2023. He has made only two career appearances in the postseason, starting against the Orioles in the division series and pitching 3.2 innings with only one run allowed. He previously made a relief outing for San Diego in 2022, allowing a run over three innings off two walks and three hits.
