Diego Reyes was on the training ground Tuesday but worked out apart from the rest of the Mexico team.
Midfielder Andres Guardado underwent an offseason procedure to repair a nerve injury with his leg, but with Guardado looking set to recover in time for the World Cup, Reyes now has converted into El Tri's principle injury concern. Reyes suffered a hamstring injury at the end of the club season with Porto and, like Guardado and center back Hector Moreno, wasn't able to take the field in Mexico's 1-0 win Saturday over Scotland.
The national team's official Twitter account posted video of Reyes working with Mexico assistants Tuesday, kicking a ball and jogging during a drill.
Pachuca midfielder Erick Gutierrez is in Denmark as Mexico's reserve player and may need to be added to the roster should Reyes fail to get fit ahead of the weekend. Reyes is a versatile player who has lined up at defensive midfielder, center back and right back for El Tri. Despite those qualities, Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio doesn't want any player not fully fit for high-level competition to be included in the squad and wants to see all three of his players who are carrying knocks put in minutes in Saturday's friendly.
"Against Denmark, we're going to train this week like always, we'll look at the opponent. We know they had a very important game Saturday. We'll analyze that and make the best decisions," Osorio said in a news conference after Saturday's game against Scotland.
"It's certainly a game where we'll need to see Diego, Hector and Andres. The rest, we'll see."
Reyes went home early from Russia in the 2017 Confederations Cup, also with a hamstring problem, and left Mexico's 1-0 loss to Croatia in March with a muscle issue as well before bouncing back to close out the season in Portugal.

The 25-year-old Reyes played in the 2014 World Cup for El Tri, coming on as a substitute in their round of 16 match against the Netherlands.
