Real Madrid will host Valencia in the first Primera Division game at the Santiago Bernabeu this season on Sunday night.

Zinedine Zidane's men have made an excellent start to the new campaign, winning the European and Spanish Super Cups and defeating Deportivo on the opening day of the league season.

Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos will be absent due to suspension, however, when they welcome Marcelino's team to the Spanish capital.

SQUADS & TEAM NEWS

Position Real Madrid players
Goalkeepers Navas, Casilla, Zidane
Defenders Carvajal, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo, Theo, Hakimi
Midfielders Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, Llorente, Asensio, Isco, Kovacic, Ceballos
Forwards Benzema, Bale, Vazquez, Mayoral

Cristiano Ronaldo is serving the third game of a five-match ban and Sergio Ramos is also suspended after being sent off against Deportivo.

Jesus Vallejo will miss out again due to injury but Raphael Varane should be available, despite missing the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy game against Fiorentina in midweek.

Potential starting XI: Navas; Carvajal, Nacho, Varane, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Isco; Bale, Benzema.

Position Valencia players
Goalkeepers Domenech, Neto
Defenders Vezo, Murillo, Gaya, Montoya, Garay, Lato, Jimenez, Vidal
Midfielders Maksimovic, Medran, Parejo, Nando, Orellana, Kondogbia, Soler, Robert, Gil
Forwards Zaza, Araujo, Rodrigo, Mina

Ezequiel Garay and Dani Parejo are both doubts for Valencia. That could mean that new signings Jeison Murillo and Geoffrey Kondogbia are thrown in at the deep end, but the deal to loan Goncalo Guedes from Paris Saint-Germain is unlikely to be completed in time.

Nani has returned to training but is still some way off being ready for selection and Gabriel, who has joined from Arsenal, is also working his way back from injury.

Potential starting XI: Neto; Vidal, Murillo, Vezo, Gaya; Soler, Kondogbia, Medran, Gil; Rodrigo, Zaza.

GAME PREVIEW

Gareth Bale Real Madrid

Real Madrid have now won eight competitive matches in a row stretching back to last season.

Their most recent loss came to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, but it was not enough to endanger the 3-0 lead they had established in the first leg of that tie.

Madrid have scored at least three goals in five of the eight victories they have enjoyed since and have not conceded more than one goal in any of those matches.

The season is long and will inevitably present a couple of twists and turns but, for now, Zinedine Zidane's men appear an unstoppable force.

It is hard to imagine Valencia getting in their way on Sunday night, despite the fact that Los Che made a positive start to the season by shutting out Las Palmas at home last weekend.

The revolving door of players and managers at Mestalla has seen Marcelino arrive as coach and the likes of Jeison Murillo and Geoffrey Kondogbia snapped up, but it is hard to see the club that once threatened Madrid finishing anywhere near them this year.
