Irving's announcement means his name can be removed from the list of 2019 free agents. A list which includes Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler.
Keeping Irving is a huge boost for the Celtics who are looking to rule the Eastern Conference in the wake of LeBron James' departure.
Boston's 2018/19 season will commence on October 17 when they open the season against the Philadelphia 76ers.
