Defending Calcutta Football League (CFL) champions East Bengal kick-start their season against newly promoted side NBP Rainbow AC on Saturday, August 12th.

The Red and Golds had already created history last season by winning the CFL seventh consecutive time last season. They will be eyeing an eight title on the trot this time. No other club has won this trophy more than East Bengal who has won it 38 times.

East Bengal's next three fixtures in CFL

The club has made several changes in their squad this time as most of the players have joined the Indian Super League bandwagon. The officials have recruited a young crop of players this time.

A number of I-League winning Aizawl FC players have joined their ranks including coach Khalid Jamil. Aizawl’s most important player last season, midfield marshal Mahmoud Al Amna too has signed for the Kolkata giants.

Trinidad and Tobago international striker Willis Deon Plaza who was a part of the team last season has rejoined the club along with compatriot Carlyle Mitchell.

A new looked East Bengal side will be up for a fresh and tougher challenge in the CFL on Saturday. They had played a pre-season friendly against the same opponents on Tuesday and had managed a 1-1 draw.

The giants have to be cautious against the minnows as a slip up in the first match could cost them the entire tournament.

East Bengal will be missing the services of 4 big players, Arnab Mondal, Mohammed Rafique, Nikhil Poojary and Salam Ranjan Singh, who will join the Indian national camp in Chennai for the upcoming international games.

Kick-off is at 3 PM IST, at the East Bengal ground.
