WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational: Rory McIlroy takes outright lead on Moving Day image

The third day of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational saw its third leader.

Rory McIlroy rocketed up the leaderboard after an impressive round that featured nine birdies, and just one bogey.

He immediately came out to card two birdies in his first three holes and three in a row before the turn. He had a slight setback on the par-4 12th but recovered well with four more birdies in his last five holes, including a successful 27-foot birdie putt on 18 to take the outright lead.

McIlory shot an 8-under 62 to move to 12 under for the tournament.

However, if McIlroy wants his third win of the year he'll have to hold off a surging field trailing closely behind him.

Brooks Koepka moved into second place (11 under) and Matthew Fitzpatrick, the 36-hole leader, holds on to solo third (10 under).

A sizable amount of golfers are also in contention in ties for fourth (9 under) and seventh (8 under).

Marc Leishman highlights the group in fourth — which also includes Alex Noren and Jon Rahm — after chipping in off the green for an eagle on the par-5 16th hole.

Thorbjørn Olesen, Ian Poulter and Billy Horschel follow in seventh.

Justin Thomas and Tommy Fleetwood climbed up the leaderboard to join Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson in a tie for 10th place (7 under).
