Tiger Woods score: Round 2 recap, highlights from The Players Championship image

Tiger Woods was frustratingly consistent in his second round of play at The Players Championship on Friday — but still good enough to make the weekend cut.

Tiger entered Round 2 on the outside the projected cut line, placing tied for 72nd. He finished the day with 15 pars but still made the cut at tied-for-64th after sinking two birdies on Friday. He's now 1-under heading into Saturday, nine shots back of leaders Charl Schwartzel and Patrick Cantlay, both 10-under.

HOLE 9: PAR 5, 583 YARDS

— Second putt: And he has it. See you Saturday, Tiger. PAR
— First putt: Birdie attempt is 10 inches right of the mark, but that's good enough to make par — and the weekend cut.
— Approach: He's on the green now, looking at a 30-foot birdie. Two strokes left.
— Second shot: He lays up to get back on the fairway — three shots are what separates him from making the cut and going home early.
— Tee shot: Tiger's drive is just left of the fairway. He's got half the hole (289 yards) left to go from here.

HOLE 8: PAR 3, 237 YARDS

— Second putt: And he walks it in. Heading to par-5 Hole 9, where he got an eagle yesterday. Can he replicate that? PAR
— First putt: Woof. Long birdie attempt falls a foot-and-a-half short — tap-in distance, but that's still tough.
— Tee shot: Tiger's on the green at the par-3 hole, but he's looking at 42 feet. Probably another par upcoming.

HOLE 7: PAR 4, 451 YARDS

— Second putt: He gets it to go from 2 feet. Just needs to make the cut at this point. PAR
— First putt: Birdie attempt is short and right.
— Approach: Tiger is a little short on his approach but is looking at 22 feet for birdie. Anything but a bogey is fine.
— Tee shot: Tiger uses the 3-wood to rope that into the middle of the fairway.

HOLE 6: PAR 4, 393 YARDS

— Second putt: Tiger sinks it, no problem. Three more holes to see if he can stay inside the cut. PAR
— First putt: Tiger's put stops about 2-and-a-half feet from the pin, setting him up for the easy par.
(Seems to be a delay as Rickie Fowler tries to fish his ball out of a tree).
— Approach: He's on the green, but not exactly in tap-in territory. He'll have a 40-foot look for birdie. Here comes the lag putt.
— Tee shot: He blasts a stinger down the left of the fairway. He can't overshoot this with 125 yards separating him from the pin.

HOLE 5: PAR 4, 471 YARDS

— Second putt: He gets it to go from 4 feet. He's walking a fine line down these last four holes. PAR
— First putt:
Tiger is cautious on his downhill birdie attempt and lets it stop a few feet short of the mark.
— Approach: The approach lands on the green but rolls past the pin, roughly 35 feet. Not an easy par attempt.
— Tee shot: Tiger drives right of the fairway, right of the bunker and left of the water — a huge break.

HOLE 4: PAR 4, 384 YARDS

— First putt: He sinks it, but he has to be kicking himself after spoiling a fantastic tee shot. PAR
— Third shot: He splashed out of the bunker and landed 5 feet from the pin. Pretty standard par upcoming.
— Approach: Bummer. Tiger's long on the approach and hits the back-side bunker, 30 feet from the pin. He has a chance at an up-and-down here, though.
— Tee shot: Tiger hits a stinger off the iron and lands 109 yards from the pin.

HOLE 3: PAR 3, 177 YARDS

— First putt: Guess who just got his second birdie of the day? Big get there after leaving some out on the greens earlier today. BIRDIE
— Tee shot:
Tiger's on the green on 3, 17 feet from the pin — you can practically feel the gallery willing him to a birdie here.

HOLE 2: PAR 5, 532 YARDS

— Second putt: PAR
— First putt:
The gallery groans at the green on 2; Tiger's birdie attempt from the fringe lips out. Here comes another two-putt par. He's 1-under through three par-5s today — he might look back on these as wasted opportunities.
— Third shot: Tiger attempts to get out of a jam and is now on the fringe, looking at a 10-foot birdie attempt. Looking at another potential wasted opportunity here.
— Approach: His second shot is well to the left of the green in the rough. Didn't like it enough to stay behind and practice better shots. He'll need those down the stretch if he wants to make the cut.
— Tee shot: Tiger gets a good swing off the tee with the 3-wood, gets the ball to go 311 yards to the left side of the fairway. Closing in on the green from 211 yards out.

HOLE 1: PAR 4, 423 YARDS

— Second putt: He sinks it. Onto Hole 2. PAR
— First putt:
Long birdie attempt stops 5-plus feet short. Should be able to manage par here.
— Approach: Second shot lands him on the green, 35 feet from the pin. Looking at a lag putt here.
— Tee shot: Tiger booms that one 301 yards but it's just right of the fairway in the rough. Still has a good look at the green from 120 yards out.

HOLE 18: PAR 4, 462 YARDS

— Third putt: BOGEY
— Second putt:
Par attempt won't drop. He's got a bogey upcoming.
— First putt: He had a tough shot, working from thick grass with the ball above his feet and little green space to work with — and hacks it for a 8-foot look at par. It's not guaranteed but it's a lot better than where he just was.
— Approach: Tiger doesn't like that shot, which leaves him short and right of the green. He's looking at a tough turnaround for par here with not much green to work with from the right.
— Tee shot: He makes up for the par on 17 by hitting a stringer down the left side of the fairway on 18. He's 194 yards from the pin, which is to the right of the green (away from the water).

HOLE 17: PAR 3, 137 YARDS

— Second putt: He'll settle for a frustrating PAR
— First putt:
Tiger's putt lands half a foot from the hole. Tough going.
— Tee shot: Tiger's on the green looking at a 12-foot birdie attempt.

HOLE 16: PAR 5, 523 YARDS

— Second putt: And he sinks it! Tiger is officially on the board at 1-under, putting him squarely in the running for the cut. He's now nine shots back of leader Chesson Hadley (10-under). BIRDIE
— First putt: Fantastic lag putt gets him within 5 feet of pay dirt. Best shot at a birdie upcoming.
— Approach: So it's not out of bounds — he got a free drop — and Tiger is now in the back of the fringe behind the green, looking at 27 yards to the pin. Going to need to see some magic here.
— Tee shot: Tiger slams his club immediately after impact on the tee. Ball's heading way, way right. Might even be out of bounds.

HOLE 15: PAR 4, 470 YARDS

— Second putt: That's his sixth straight par today. Tiger really needs to start sinking these birdie opportunities — what better place to start than par-5 Hole 16? PAR
— First putt: After some consultation ... Tiger still can't seal it. He's still 3 feet out.
— Approach: Tiger's on the green now and will have 18 feet for birdie.
— Tee shot: And he splits it down the middle off the tee. Could really go for a birdie here — he's on the bubble for the weekend cut at the moment.

HOLE 14: PAR 4, 481 YARDS

— Second putt: He walks it in from a foot out. PAR
— First putt:
Another near miss means Tiger's going for his fifth par today.
— Approach: Tiger gets a nice draw and manages to land about 15 feet from the pin. First birdie of the day coming up?
— Tee shot: He sends his ball well right and into the trees for the second straight day on 14. Not ideal.

HOLE 13: PAR 3, 181 YARDS

— First putt: Guess what? Tiger sinks his third shot on the par-3. PAR
— Approach:
Tiger needs break out the wedge to get out of the collection area behind the green. He's up and onto the green with about a 3-foot look at par.
— Tee shot: Tiger takes his time on what club to use before sending it long to the back of the fringe. He's looking at 40 feet from the pin.

HOLE 12: PAR 4, 302 YARDS

— Second putt: He walks it in for par. No damage done, but no headway made. PAR
— First putt: He misses another birdie attempt, this time on the right edge of the pin. Tough.
— Approach: Tiger is a little long on his approach, and will have a 15-foot birdie attempt from behind the pin.
— Tee shot: Tiger finds the fairway with the iron. He's looking at 77 yards between him and the pin. Another opportunity upcoming.

HOLE 11: PAR 5, 558 YARDS

— Second putt: Tiger walks it in. Can't miss on those opportunities going forward. PAR
— First putt: Tiger gives it a good look but can't get the birdie. He'll settle for the two-putt par from less than a foot away.
— Approach: And he's squarely on the green, facing an uphill birdie attempt from 17 feet out.
— Second shot: Tiger lays up out of the bunker and onto the fairway, roughly 128 yards from the hole. The pin is on the right side of the green and he may overshoot it here to avoid dropping his ball into the water.
— Tee shot: Tiger's drive starts in the center but veers left into the bunker. Got some work to do early here on the par 5.

HOLE 10: PAR 4, 424 YARDS

— Second putt: And he sinks it. Not a bad start to the day, though a bit disappointing considering the excellent drive. On to the next one. PAR
— First putt: Tiger does a good job to get out of the collection area right of the pin. He'll have a three-foot par attempt here.
— Approach: Tiger lands in the fringe, about 15 feet downhill from the pin. Will have a curious look at a birdie attempt here.
— Tee shot: Tiger hits a low, flat stinger off the tee to start Round 2. And we're off.
