Given his place on the leaderboard, Tiger Woods' score in the final round of The Players Championship on Sunday was worth tracking. Woods entered the fourth round tied for ninth on the leaderboard at 8-under for the tournament. He left the course Sunday at 11-under for the tournament after shooting a 3-under 69, but it wasn't enough to close in on the leaders.
Tiger managed to reach a tie for second place when he birdied the par-4 No. 12, but a bogey on No. 14 started a slide that included a double bogey on No. 17. It was a disappointing end to what was shaping into another great round, but it capped a solid tournament for the 42-year-old.
LEADERBOARD: Scores from The Players Championship
"I played so well this weekend ... unfortunately just didn't cash in," Woods said after his round, via NBC's broadcast. "Today I was pretty far back, trying to somehow give myself a chance with maybe four or five holes to go.
"Just didn't happen."

The only reason Tiger was even in the hunt in the final round of The Players was his score from a brilliant third round, a 7-under 65 after entering Saturday 1-under. He noted favorable course conditions at Sawgrass as part of the reason he was able to play to his lowest score ever at the course and his lowest score of the season. Sunday's conditions were similar with hot, humid air and soft greens, but wind made certain shots a little more difficult.
Along with everybody else near the top of the leaderboard at The Players Championship, Tiger was chasing Webb Simpson, who entered Sunday's final round at an insane 19-under for the tournament.
