Surely when Tiger Woods decided to take off a full 32 days in preparation for the PGA Championship, he thought he'd be saving energy for the four-day major tournament. But after a 3-over-par 73 on Friday in Round 2 of the PGA Championship, Woods' first event back since winning his fifth Masters was just a two-day affair as he missed the cut by a stroke.
While putting let Woods down on Thursday, struggles off the tee were the theme Friday for the 15-time major champion. On 14 holes with a par of greater than 3, Woods found the fairway just three times. He missed the first six fairways of the round.

Woods' final shot to make a birdie and the cut on 18 didn't really have much of chance as he had to chip it in from just off the green, over 40 feet away. Woods played about average through the front nine (he was even at the turn), but four bogeys on the first five holes of the back nine proved too much to overcome. The missed cut is Tiger's first in a major since the 2018 U.S. Open.
Brooks Koepka — one of Woods' playing partners with Francesco Molinari — continued his dominance at Bethpage Black, although he did record his first bogey in 41 holes. That was the lone blemish for Koepka as he finished the day at minus-12.

Hole 18: Par 4, 411 yards
Woods will be going home early. Needed to make a 40-foot chip for birdie but hit it a little too aggressively. Made par, but a disappointing finish nonetheless.
Hole 17: Par 3, 207 yards
Needed a 39-foot putt for birdie that rolled past by four feet. Woods made the less-than-easy putt to save par. It's all going to come down to one hole.
Hole 16: Par 4, 490 yards
Still yet to find the fairway on back-to-back holes. His birdie attempt curled just around the high side of the hole for a tap-in par. Woods is likely in need of a birdie on 17 or 18 if he wants to play this weekend.
Hole 15: Par 4, 484 yards
A rarity as Tiger found the fairway off the tee on a clean lie about 180 yards from the hole. Left a 30-foot putt woefully short, but saved par on the next shot. He's one over the cut line with three holes to play.
Hole 14: Par 3, 161 yards
Lands on the green off the tee but sent his first putt sailing past the hole. Another three-putt makes his fourth bogey over the last five holes.
Hole 13: Par 5, 608 yards
Found a fairway bunker off the tee, but a good approach shot left him eight feet from the hole that he eventually sank for a birdie.
Hole 12: Par 4, 515 yards
A third straight bogey for Woods moves him to very dangerous territory. Three-putted after landing on the green about 50 feet from the hole.
Hole 11: Par 4, 435 yards
Missed the fairway again and approach shot sails over the green. Left a 12-foot putt for par about six inches short. It's another bogey, and it sends Woods over the cut line.
Hole 10: Par 4, 502 yards
Putter leaves him hanging again. Misses from 11 feet out to end up three-putting the hole. Another bogey to start the back nine. On the brighter side for Woods, Koepka recorded his first bogey in 41 holes.
Hole 9: Par 4, 460 yards
Solid hole all around for Woods. Finally finds the fairway after starting 0 for 6 and then drains a 39-foot putt for his second birdie of the round. At the turn, he is even for the day and one stroke under the projected cut line (+3). Koepka is yet to bogey at this tournament and sits in first at 10 under.

Hole 8: Par 3, 210 yards
Tee shot lands 20 feet from the cup. Two-putts to save par.
Hole 7: Par 4, 524 yards
Woods continues his relationship with the rough off the tee. Missed a 6-foot putt for par. Second bogey of the day.
Hole 6: Par 4, 408 yards
Still yet to find a fairway off the tee but landed a great approach shot about 16 feet from the hole that he makes for his first birdie of Round 2.
The crowd's been waiting for this.

Hole 5: Par 4, 478 yards
Five tee shots, zero fairways. Sinks a 10-foot putt for par. Koepka has birdied three of his first five holes and is now playing 13 strokes better than Woods.
Hole 4: Par 5, 517 yards
In the rough again off the drive, the third time through his first four holes today. Recovered from a bad third shot with his wedge to eventually par the hole, but missed opportunity on one of the course's two par-5s. Eagled the hole Thursday.
Hole 3: Par 3, 230 yards
Finally a great drive, but he rimmed a 4-foot putt for birdie. Still manages to save par, but that would have been big.
A fraction too hard from Tiger... 🐅

Woods is agonisingly close to a birdie on three but avoids a second successive dropped shot.

Hole 2: Par 4, 389 yards
Tee shot finds the rough again. Has a chance to save par with a 20-foot putt but comes up about 10 inches short. It's his first bogey of the day.
Hole 1: Par 4, 430 yards
Not an ideal start — again. Tee shot goes left into the crowd, followed by his approach landing in a bunker. Still manages to save par.
