Patrick Reed is hoisting up another trophy at The Northern Trust.

Reed, who also won the event in 2016, was victorious for the first time since winning the 2018 Masters Tournament. He moved into contention during the third round Saturday and carded 2-under 69 in the final day of play Sunday to edge out the rest of the field. Reed finished the weekend 16 under.

It is his seventh PGA Tour victory and it officially kicks off the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

He moved to second, behind Brooks Koepka, in the projected FedEx Cup standings.

Abraham Ancer finished in second place (15 under), his best outing of the season, after shooting 2-under 69, as well.

The Mexican professional had a few hiccups on his front nine with bogeys on the 4th and 6th holes but finished with four birdies on the day.

Harold Varner III continued his climb up the leaderboard to tie for third place (14 under) with Jon Rahm, who once had control of the leaderboard through his final round. He got through the front nine with three birdies but after the turn, he got into trouble and had three bogeys in five holes. Rahm finished 2-under 69 to match Reed and Ancer's final-round score.

Adam Scott rounded out the top five (13 under) by executing an impressive round that was highlighted by seven birdies.

More big names also finished within the top 10.

Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen and Brandt Snedeker tied for sixth place (12 under) while Ian Poulter and Justin Rose finished in a tie for 10th (11 under).

A win for any of these top golfers can put pressure on Koepka, who continues to lead the race to the FedEx Cup. Reed, McIlroy, Rahm and now Ancer all trail closely.

The playoffs will continue with the BMW Championship beginning Thursday.
