Michelle Wie announced Friday that she is withdrawing from next week's U.S. Women's Open because of an injury.

The 2014 U.S. Women’s Open winner has been fighting a wrist problem all year that has limited her to one full tournament. She first announced last month she was taking a break from the tour.

"While I'm making progress with my recovery, I have decided to withdraw from the U.S. Women's Open," Wie wrote on her Instagram account. "It was a difficult decision to make because the U.S. Open was one that I was looking forward to playing in all year, but my recovery and health is the priority. Thanks so much for all the messages of support — they really keep my spirits up. I am hopeful that I'll be seeing you all back out on Tour very soon!

The U.S. Women's Open will be held May 30-June 2 at Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.

There has been one bright spot for the 29-year-old Wie this year. She and Jonnie West, a Golden State Warriors executive and the son of NBA legend Jerry West, announced their engagement in March.
