Rory McIlroy continues to chase an elusive Masters title — the one crown he needs to finish off a career Grand Slam.
If he manages it, he will join Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary Player and Gene Sarazen in an exclusive club: winners of all four majors.
The 32-year-old has played a limited number of tournaments this season, but his failure to make the cut at his warm-up event will have been very disappointing for him.
Will Rory McIlroy play at The Masters?
It is very likely that Rory McIlroy will play at The Masters this year. This will be his 14th participation at the event. He may be reassured to know that three other golfers have needed at least as many attempts to win their first Masters: Billy Casper (14), Mark O'Meara (15) and Sergio Garcia (19).

How has Rory McIlroy been playing in 2022?
Rory McIlroy's performance in 2022 so far has been rather patchy. He missed the cut at the most recent PGA Tour event, the Valero Texas Open, which he intended as a warm-up event for The Masters.
His first event in the 2021/22 season was the CJ Cup @ SUMMIT, at the end of October, which he won with an impressive score of -25.
However, similar success has not followed. He finished 18th at the Hero World Challenge in December, tied 10th at the Genesis Invitational in February, tied 13th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, and tied 33rd at the Players Championship the week after that.
