Pebble Beach is notorious for its narrow fairways, slick greens and lengthy rough, and the course lived up to its reputation Friday during the second round of the 2019 U.S. Open.
After starting his day with a birdie and par performance on the back nine, Ian Poulter teed off on No. 3 looking to ride that momentum. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't exactly the case.

His tee shot looked well enough, traveling 264 yards and landing on the right fairway. His next shot landed on the right intermediate just over 31 feet from the hole. But this is where the trouble set in for Poulter.
The edge of the bunker is surrounded by some tall fescue, and when Poulter when to take his third shot, it got in the way, and his ball went virtually no where.

Poulters next shot managed to dislodge the ball from the rough, but it landed just short of the green.
It ultimately took Poulter eight strokes to hole it on No. 3, giving him a quadruple bogey and ballooning his score to 4-over for the tournament. Poulter did manage to follow up the debacle with a birdie on No. 4, but he went right back to square one with a bogey on No. 5.
Needless to say, it was a rough afternoon for Poulter.
