Pinehurst is going to be the home for some father-son time in the Woods family this weekend.
Tiger Woods is gearing up to play in his fourth tournament and third major of the season. The 15-time major champion is in North Carolina this week for the 2024 U.S. Open, looking to win for the fourth time at the prestigious event.
The 2024 season has been a tough go for Woods. He was forced to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational in February, with injuries keeping him out from playing for another two months. Woods performed fairly well at the Masters, making the cut and finishing 60th in the field, but then failed to make it to the weekend at the PGA Championship.
Woods is going to be competing at the U.S. Open for the first time in four years, and he's bringing special company with him. His son, Charlie, is at the tournament alongside the legend, and he has a specific purpose for being there.

Why is Charlie Woods at the U.S. Open?
Woods isn't just bringing his son to North Carolina for leisure. The golf sensation is putting his kin to work on the course.
Tiger said that Charlie will be acting as a sort of swing consultant for him while competing at Pinehurst. He said that his son has "seen me hit more golf balls than anyone," and no one will have as much knowledge on his swing as him.

"It's great for us to be able to share these moments together," Woods said. "As for what his responsibilities are, it's the same. I trust him with my swing and my game. He's seen it more than anybody else in the world. He's seen me hit more golf balls than anyone."
Charlie has received a specific credential that allows for instructors, interpreters, or trainers/medical support to be with a player for a tournament. He was seen with Woods for his practice round ahead of Thursday's opening round, playing alongside Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Rickie Fowler on Monday.
The father-son duo have frequented the golf course before. The two have competed together at four PNC Championships, as the young Woods gears up for a potential future on the PGA Tour.
This time, the pair are aiming to win a major together, which would be Woods' first since 2019.
