Will Zalatoris' first win on the PGA Tour came with a special shout-out from a golf legend.
Zalatoris finally ditched his moniker of best PGA Tour player without a victory on Sunday, beating Sepp Straka in a three-hole playoff at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
It came after a series of near misses, including a second-place finish at the 2021 Masters, playoff loss in the 2022 PGA Championship and tied-for-second finish in the 2022 U.S. Open.
The win on Sunday wasn't historic, but still significant enough for actor and comedian Adam Sandler to congratulate him:
Congrats Will! I’m happy for you! Happy’s happy for you! Enjoy it all! pic.twitter.com/mlfRY2oYmr

If you're wondering why exactly Sandler is congratulating Zalatoris, it all dates back to a funny comparison the comedian noted at the 2021 Masters, with the PGA Tour golfer bearing a striking resemblance to Sandler's caddie in the movie "Happy Gilmore."
Have fun today young man. Mr. Gilmore is watching you and very proud. pic.twitter.com/iwOEuMdR8W

Zalatoris ultimately fell short of winning at Augusta, but he did at least thank Sandler for the words of encouragement:
If you’re ever in need of a caddie again let me know. I’ll be better this time. I’m always available for you, Mr. Gilmore. https://t.co/R1e8awZIvh

Now all Zalatoris has to do is follow up on his offer to caddie for Sandler. That's clearly next up on his to-do list after finally getting his first PGA Tour victory.
