She's only 19 years old, but it would be hard to tell that given the tenacity and poise Leylah Fernandez has displayed.

The Canadian has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 French Open. She's coming off a fourth-round victory over No. 27 ranked Amanda Anisimova in three sets.

"It was a very hard match, an incredible match for the both of us. I think we brought a high level," Fernandez said of the 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory.

Making it to the fourth round was a career best at Roland Garros for Fernandez; now, she is one of the last eight players remaining in the field. She is the first Canadian to make the French Open quarterfinals since Genie Bouchard in 2014.

The fourth-round win set her up to face Martina Trevisan in the quarters. The Italian advanced with a fourth-round victory over Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Trevisan is left-handed, which is a rarity on the women's side. It makes for an interesting game plan for Fernandez.

"We don't have many left-handers on tour, so I think it will be a tricky match, like every single match is going to be tricky," Fernandez said. "We are just going to have to find solutions, just find a way to play against a left-hander."
