Red Bull's Max Verstappen continued his perfect weekend by claiming pole position for the 2023 F1 Sprint at the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Dutchman, who also finished top in qualifying yesterday but will drop to P6 on Sunday's grid due to a penalty, beat out McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri by just 0.011 seconds during an entertaining session.
The pair were also closely followed by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz who qualified in P3 and missed out on top spot himself by only 0.025 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Aston Martin suffered double disappointment in the second phase of qualifying. Taking a gamble on the increasingly drier track, Lance Stroll was the first to swap his wet tyres for a set of mediums before crashing at corner eight. Not only did that bring an early end to his session but it also saw his teammate Fernando Alonso lose out as the ensuing red flag ended SQ2 early before the Spanish veteran could log a time.
