The Senior Men's National Team schedule continues to fill out prior to the FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.
After announcing that they'll host Nigeria in Winnipeg in early August, Team Canada has also added a game against Team USA and two against the New Zealand Tall Blacks while in Australia ahead of the tournament, which begins at the end of August.
"We’re excited to have the opportunity to compete and gain familiarity against some of the top teams in the world in preparation for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019," said Rowan Barrett, Canada Basketball General Manager said via a press release. "The USA has been the gold standard in FIBA basketball for several years so this will be a great opportunity for our program.
"In addition, having the chance to play tough road games against Australia and New Zealand will be a valuable experience for our team on the road to the World Cup."
Canada will play a total of five pre-tournament games while in Australia. They kick off their tour with two games against Australia in Perth on Aug. 16 and 17. They'll then travel to Sydney, where they'll play New Zealand on back-to-back nights, Aug. 20 and 21, before ending their tour against the powerhouse Americans on Aug. 26.
"Playing an outstanding opponent like Canada in Sydney is a fantastic way for the USA Men’s National Team to finish out its tour," USA Basketball Men’s National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo said in a release. "This game will not just be an opportunity to put the finishing touches on our pre-World Cup preparations, but it will be amazing for USA Basketball to return to Qudos Bank Arena where the USA men and women won Olympic gold medals in 2000.
"I have no doubt the game and atmosphere around the game will again be very memorable."
After their game against Nigeria in Winnipeg, Team Canada will depart for Australia on Aug. 10.
