Is Justin Fields playing Week 12? Fantasy injury update for Bears-Jets (Updated) image

Justin Fields has been one of the standout stars in fantasy football over the past few weeks and cemented himself as a must-start QB1. However, the second-year quarterback is listed as "questionable" with a shoulder injury for Week 12's road contest against the Jets, which could force fantasy football owners to make some tough start 'em, sit 'em decisions at quarterback. Knowing the latest updates and having a list of the best QB streamers is crucial ahead of Sunday's action.

We'll continue to update this article with news on Fields until the official active/inactive report comes out on Sunday around 11:35 a.m. ET.

WEEK 12 INJURY UPDATES:  Running backs | Pass-catchers

Is Justin Fields playing Week 12?

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported late Saturday night that Fields is not expected to play on Sunday against the Jets.

UPDATE 2: Fields is officially OUT.

Fields was cleared to practice on Wednesday but was limited on Thursday as he deals with an AC joint injury on his non-throwing shoulder. He was officially listed as "questionable" on the team's final injury report ahead of the Week 12 matchup against the Jets. However, Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus said on Friday that Fields would need to be cleared further by the medical staff to play against New York, according to beat writer Brad Briggs.

At this point, it appears that Trevor Siemian will be the starter for Chicago on Sunday, but there's still a chance that Fields can play. If he does, it's tough to sit him given his elite rushing ability. It's fair to assume that Fields will run less because of his injury, but it's such a big part of this game that the Bears wouldn't put him on the field if they didn't think he could handle at least some of his usual workload. Given projected windy conditions in New York, we'd still view Fields as a low-end QB1 if he suits up.

If Siemian starts, fantasy owners should look elsewhere. The last time we saw Siemian start under center was last season with the Saints where he completed 57.4 percent of his passes for 1,154 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions. That said, Siemian's presence wouldn't be a significant downgrade for pass-catchers Darnell Mooney or Cole Kmet, though neither are highly recommended plays this week regardless of who's starting for Chicago.

WEEK 12 STANDARD RANKINGS:

If Fields is out, the top streamers this week are Marcus Mariota (@ Commanders), Matt Ryan (vs. Steelers), and Taylor Heinicke (vs. Falcons). In really deep/superflex leagues, you could also try Kyle Allen (@ Dolphins) and Bryce Perkins (@ Chiefs). Mariota has the highest floor, while Ryan and Heinicke have slightly higher ceilings. However, because the Falcons-Commanders game could be slightly affected by rainy, windy weather, Ryan might be the safest choice.
