Fantasy Injury Updates: Le'Veon Bell, Derrius Guice, Joe Mixon shake up Week 2 RB rankings image

Things are going from bad to worse for the Jets, and the latest involves Le'Veon Bell and a sore shoulder. In addition, Derrius Guice might also be out longer than expected, which makes Adrian Peterson a must-own if he's not already been added in your league. Joe Mixon and James Conner are also dealing with injury/illness issues that have them listed as "questionable" on fantasy football sites. Given the importance of these RB1/2s, Week 2 fantasy RB rankings are getting cloudier. We're here to provide the latest updates so you can make more informed start 'em, sit 'em calls.

Is Le'Veon Bell playing Monday night?

Bell's been dealing with a sore shoulder, and it's bothered him long enough that the Jets had him undergo an MRI on Thursday to see if there's any larger damage.

A Bell absence would leave a big hole in the Jets' offense, especially with Sam Darnold missing out on Week 2 with mono. Ty Montgomery could get the first crack at most of the touches, and he'd be a sleeper start in PPR leagues. Bilal Powell would also play a role in filling in for Bell on Monday night against Cleveland.

How long is Derrius Guice out?

Guice had surgery on Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in one of his knees. He's expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, which is longer than the initially anticipated "few weeks." If you have an IR slot, stash Guice for as long as you can, but if you're in a roster crunch, it's not crazy to drop Guice. It all comes down to how badly you need that extra player.

Adrian Peterson, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards in 2018, will occupy the early-down role in Washington as long as Guice is out, and most weeks would deserve at least FLEX consideration. Chris Thompson becomes a more sure thing as a PPR weapon as long as Guice is out, too. Both should be picked up if available in your leagues.

Is Joe Mixon playing Week 2?

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Wednesday that Mixon is day-to-day. He also added that Mixon's practice workload this week will be predicated on him being ready to play Sunday against the 49ers. Mixon's dealing with an ankle injury that knocked him out early in the third quarter of last week's game in Seattle.

(Update: Mixon didn't practice on Thursday, either.)

Giovani Bernard becomes the three-down back in Cincinnati if Mixon is inactive Sunday, which makes him nearly a must-start against a porous 49ers defense. If someone in your league somehow doesn't already own Bernard, pick him up immediately. Lower-owned options that could help replace Mixon include Ronald Jones II and Carlos Hyde. If Mixon is active, he's tough to sit even if he's expected to get a slightly reduced workload.

James Conner injury update

Conner was limited in Wednesday's practice due to "illness." There should be plenty of time for Conner to get better leading into Sunday's Pittsburgh home opener against the Seahawks.

As long as Conner is healthy, he'll be the workhorse for the Steelers as they look to bounce back from an opening-week loss last Sunday night. If Conner was a surprise scratch, Jaylen Samuels would presumably get the most backfield touches, but he's not a true RB workhorse. Rookie Benny Snell Jr. could also play a role.
