Fantasy Injury Updates: Is Dalvin Cook playing this week? image

Dalvin Cook was on his way to a massive game against the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football before suffering a groin injury on his first play of the second half. Cook limped off the field and got checked out in the locker room by the Vikings' medical staff. While Cook returned to the game, he only lasted one play before leaving the field and remaining sidelined after that point. Now, there are questions about Cook's overall health ahead of the Vikings' Week 6 matchup with the Falcons, as he has been slapped with the dreaded "questionable" tag at this early stage in the week. Here are the latest updates on Cook, what fantasy football owners need to know about his injury, and how it impacts our Week 6 RB rankings.

Is Dalvin Cook playing in Week 6?

UPDATE 2: Cook has officially been ruled "out" for Week 6.

UPDATE: Cook did not practice on Thursday.

Cook (groin) was listed as a non-participant at Vikings practice on Wednesday. Chad Graff of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Cook wasn't expected to play this week, so it wasn't a major surprise to see Cook serve as a non-participant, especially with the Vikings set to have a bye week in Week 7.

With Cook likely out, Alexander Mattison will take on a bigger role for the Vikings. He will be a top-15 play against a Falcons defense that is weak against RBs, and he could even crack the top 10 if everything works out well for him.

That said, the status of Mattison and other members of the Vikings will need to be watched closely because the Falcons had a positive COVID test and shuttered their facility on Thursday as part of the NFL's revised COVID protocol. The league will likely decide in the coming days if the game will be played as scheduled, postponed to a later date this week, or postponed to another week of the season.

As for Cook, his next chance to return to action will likely come in Week 8 against the Packers. Owners should prepare to be without the Vikings RB for at least two weeks as he recovers from that groin strain.
